Porcelain veneers FAQ

How do veneers work?

Crafted from variations of porcelain, a veneer is a thin shell that covers just the front surface of the tooth. Some of the reasons veneers may be the treatment of choice include severely stained teeth, chipped/misshaped teeth, to close spacing between teeth or just to change your smile.

What do porcelain veneers cost?

We cannot give you an exact price because each set of veneers is specifically designed for each individual patient. During your consultation appointment, we will discuss your visions, evaluate your mouth, and create a complete plan to achieve the smile you are looking for. At that time, we will also review costs and payment options.

Can I remove the veneers at a later date?

If you choose custom veneers, the restorations are permanent because a very thin layer of enamel is removed to prepare your teeth for the porcelain veneers and the veneers are then cemented to the teeth. Options such as Lumineers allow patients the flexibility of having veneers without preparing the tooth. However, Lumineers don't work in all cases, so you will need a consultation and exam to determine the best option for your smile.

Why can't I just whiten my teeth instead?

In some cases, professional teeth whitening can brighten your smile and revive your appearance. When you have gaps, permanent stains (such as tetracycline staining), or chips, whitening your teeth does not address the issue. Porcelain veneers literally cover the teeth and create a straight, attractive smile.

Does it take a long time to get veneers?

Most of the time, patients complete the whole process in four to six weeks. During the first appointment we will discuss your vision and make impressions and models of your existing teeth. Following this, we will prepare the teeth, take impressions for the veneers and place temporary veneers on your teeth. The last visit is when the porcelain veneers will be cemented in place permanently.
