Treatment of TMJ Dysfunction

TMJ Disorder involves sliding or rotation of TMJ.

Dr. David Hassid, your local Houston Texas dentist also treats Temporomandibular Joint Disorder/Dysfunction, also known as TMD or TMJD. This type of disorder/dysfunction generally involves some issue with the rotation and transition, or sliding, of the TMJ. There are two of these joints, one on each side of the head, just anterior to your ears. This joint is complex, as it has both a hinge motion and sliding motions. Problems with these joints can also be complex, potentially involving muscles, tendons, teeth, ligaments and or nerves, in various combinations.

Temporomandibular joint disorders are often caused by the teeth not coming together properly in a comfortable rest position. They can also be caused by trauma to the joint. Common symptoms include clicking of the jaw, frequent headaches or neck soreness, and pain in and around the ears.

If you require a Houston Tx dentist who understands these types of disorders, please contact Hassid Dental to schedule your personal consultation with Dr. David Hassid. We welcome patients from the Upper Kirby, West University, River Oaks areas and throughout Houston.
